Els De Winne and Guy Geuens proudly opened the doors of ‘t Verschil in September 2021. They have given their hearts to the Flemish Ardennes.
Els and Guy have a predilection for the Flemish Ardennes. The couple loves the peace and quiet and the greenery in the region. They hope their guests will be as charmed by the security of the place and the grandeur of the surrounding landscape as they are.
You can sense it as soon as you make your way from the car park to the imposing entrance: this place has a history. The former bourgeois house from the end of the nineteenth century was in need of a thorough renovation. The outbuildings were hidden under metres of ivy and many structures needed to be renewed. The old stone oven is an authentic structure that has been restored with love.
Els and Guy renovated 't Verschil with an eye for detail and beautiful materials. The old, dilapidated building was thus restored to its former glory. Simplicity with character is the result.
Staying at ‘t Verschil, you are part of a living history: you will be sleeping where previously a local mayor, a butcher, a poultry farmer, a mushroom-grower and even a beekeeper once dreamed their dreams. All in all, the building has seen a rich variety of people pass through its doors and hallways – the most recent owner was a lady magistrate.
‘t Verschil today is a meeting point, a place of varied activities. In summer, you can enjoy regional beers on our terrace, while the peace and harmony inside the B&B enfolds the guests like a feather duvet.
Most importantly, ‘t Verschil has become the place that Els and Guy dreamed of, a place where everyone feels instantly at home and can enjoy the tranquillity, just as they do themselves.
The Flemish Ardennes are a Mecca for cyclists and hikers. This beautiful region extends from Kluisbergen to Erpe-Mere and from Kruisem to Geraardsbergen. The landscape undulates and meanders through woodlands, along cobbled roads, up hill and down dale. As you tour through the Flemish Ardennes, you’ll repeatedly encounter magnificent panoramas.
Are you an enthusiastic hiker, dedicated cyclist, or perhaps in search of a good dose of culture? ‘t Verschil is the perfect base for all this! Several hiking and cycling routes pass right by our back garden. If you’re more of a town-lover, you’ll be delighted by Oudenaarde or Ronse, both a stone’s throw away.
